It's conscientious parents--not tyrannical ones--who have the biggest problems with the UNCRC. It takes away the rights of the ones who best know and love the child as an individual and who have his/her best long-term interests at heart, and puts the power for decision making in the hands of a) a committee that cares only about pushing its progressive agenda, and b) a child who certainly has a definite opinion that should be heard, but who has little idea of long-term consequences of those choices. I've seen the UNCRC used to "appeal" parental decisions on normal chores (not the child slavery type), to force parents to accept a minor's live-in lover living under their roof, trampling on their values and rights in the process, and to remove a young child from parents who refused to feed their son junk food. While the UNCRC has a valid place in certain areas of the world, it's fodder for abusive and intrusive policies in places that already have adequate child protection laws in place...and who value their right to self-determination as a nation.
